چکیده

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) have been classified as persistent organic pollutants (POPs) well endocrine-disrupting compounds (EDCs). This study determined the concentrations of six PBDE congeners (BDE 47, BDE 99, 100, 153, 154, and 183) in water sediment samples from open city drains, Makurdi Metropolitan Area, North Central Nigeria, using gas chromatogragh–mass spectrometer. These are components penta- octa-BDE formulations that banned by European Union. The were collected bi-monthly, for 1 year across dry wet seasons. All considered found to be present both sediment. levels ?6PBDEs ranged 0.05 0.28 ng L?1 during season 0.02 0.36 season, while their seasons 3.22 26.26 g?1 7.51 27.41 g?1, respectively. percentage recoveries solid phase Soxhlet extractions 69 104% 70 112%, It was concluded presence all posed a pollution risk river which drains discharge require further monitoring necessary preventive measures.

Concentrations of Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDEs) in Water from Asunle Stream, Ile-Ife, Nigeria

This study assessed the concentrations of polybrominated diphenylethers (PBDEs) in stream water obtained from Asunle stream, an adjoining stream of the Obafemi Awolowo University dumpsite. Water samples were collected for a period of eight months from six different locations comprising of a spot upstream in an uphill area relative to the refuse dumpsite and five others downstream along the stre...

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) over the open Indian Ocean

Atmospheric concentrations of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), a group of industrial chemicals widely used as flame retardants were measured over the Indian Ocean and represent the first comprehensive data of atmospheric contaminations of PBDEs over the open ocean. Air back trajectory analysis shows that PBDEs have great potential for long-range atmospheric transport to remote regions of...

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in house dust in Beijing, China.

Eleven house dust samples were collected in Beijing to quantify 42 different polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs). Total PBDEs concentrations ranged from 140 to 1,300 ng g(-1). The dominant PBDEs congener identified was BDE 209, which made up more than 70% of all PBDEs congeners. Concentrations of PBDEs in Chinese house dust were lower than in other countries. The most polluted areas were ele...

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in U.S. mothers' milk.

No previous reports exist on polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) congeners in human milk from individual U.S. mothers. This article on PBDEs is an extension of our previous studies on concentrations of dioxins, dibenzofurans, polychlorinated biphenyls, and other chlorinated organic compounds in human milk in a number of countries. PBDE commercial products are used as flame retardants in flexib...
